The Bio-Info-Nano Research and Development Institute, to be centrally located in Silicon Valley at the NASA Research Park, will couple the extensive research talent of UCSC, NASA Ames, and prominent industrial partners. This next generation research architecture would consist of a learning environment within which a broad, multi-sector community would interact to increase the effectiveness of R&D investments. Envisioned as a partnership of government, academia and industry, BIN-RDI would have significant national influence on the progression of nano-science, technology, education and socio-economic policy through evaluation of research outcomes, societal impacts, ethics and commerce.
The Advanced Studies Laboratories (ASL) is an exciting, first-of-its-kind strategic alliance between NASA Ames Research Center and The University of California, Santa Cruz's Silicon Valley Initiatives. ASL is creating a model research organization from this partnership between a premier Federal research agency and one of the nation's most prestigious institutions of public higher education. ASL's focus is on a managing its shared-use, open-access collaborative facility at the NASA ARC campus. This facility has a mix of laboratory and office space with equipment and services supporting research in molecular and environmental biology, life sciences and astrobiology, earth and planetary sciences, chemistry and chemical engineering, nanotechnology and materials science, and other areas. ASL actively seeks new groups to join as members ('Affiliates'). Find out more at http://asl.ucsc.edu.
