Small Spacecraft Summer Study

spacecraft

In December 2006, the UARC solicited proposal from scientists at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz to develop a low-cost scientific mission in collaboration with the NASA Ames Small Spacecraft Center.

Funding was awarded to Space Sciences Laboratory (PI: Dr. Greg Delory) to carry out a design study for a Lunar Science Orbiter.

Six students were selected to work on various aspects of the study: from orbit transfer scenarios to thermal, mechanical and electrical systems.

The UARC STI held its second annual End of Summer Symposium, Friday, August 17, 2007 in NASA Ames Building 3. The symposium gives students the opportunity to showcase their summer work in the form of a poster presentation. A panel of judges spent the morning hours evaluating their work and awards were given for the best presentations. Two students were selected to receive full travel support to a national conference of their choice to present their work.
